The LCBO Vintages release for November 2015 is out (October 31, 2015) and I am thrilled. This is the time of year when the magazine traditionally releases the wines that you want to purchase for your holiday celebrations (X-Mas dinner, cocktail parties, to take to friends around the holidays, New Years celebrations or exceptional gifts). This release focuses on Super Tuscany: “Sophisticated, singular wines”. And there it is, on page 11 of the magazine, in all its glory: ORENO 2012. The internationally acclaimed wine critic (cigar critic, entrepreneur and traveler) James Suckling describes the 2012: “Fabulous aromas of blackberries, orange peel, raspberries, and citrus. Violets too…it’s so fine, beautiful, racy and refined”. I cannot wait.
I have bought this wine twice before, I have cellared it and brought it out for our Christmas dinner. It is glorious, absolutely glorious. This is not a cheap wine, very expensive in fact. Beautiful wines can be had at one-third the price. If you want a real treat, once a year, or once every few years, if you desire a real show stopper that will elevate the meal to great heights, this is it. This is meant for a very special occasion. You will savor it, linger over it and you won’t forget it. The first time I served it for the holidays, everyone was in the middle of lively conversation. My brother-in-law sipped from his glass and literally stopped mid-conversation. He just stopped talking! Then he said: “this is a BIG wine”, then he sipped again. He was still quiet. Then he asked to see the bottle. Then everyone was intrigued and took a sip. The conversation took a complete turn to wine. It was unforgettable. We went on to enjoy a few more wonderful reds. But I, like everyone else, could not forget the Oreno. I will be at the LCBO on October 31 to pick up one glorious, celebratory bottle to share once again.
