These are the chairs that my husband and I fell in love with on our first trip to the Amalfi coast (particularly my husband). Why? They are extremely comfortable, long enough for a tall person and wider than the usual sun lounger. They are colorful, and dry quickly, but most of all, they come with a canopy which can be angled over your head to provide perfect shade for reading! Anyone who loves to read a book or magazine while soaking up the sun knows that it is almost impossible to accomplish; the sun is just too bright. These Italian made chairs provide the perfect solution. We couldn’t get them out of our minds after returning home.
After researching online for weeks, I finally found a distributor in the US. I called only to find that the business had gone under. The owner was trying to clear out his remaining stock so he gave me a bit of a discount. I ordered two. They are more expensive than most sun loungers, but they are very well made. The frame is entirely aluminum, which means you can leave them outside in the rain, they will not rust. And the material used for the chair is of such high quality that after years of use, they will still look like they are new. We haven’t regretted buying them for one moment. We use them all summer long!
While Sole Mare is no longer in business, you can purchase the loungers through this Italian website and they will ship them www.produceshop.it. Once on the site, enter ‘Santorini’ in the search engine. The chairs will appear. If I find another North American distributor, I will let you know!
While these chairs will always look best on an Italian beach, here is a close up of the lounger and those wonderful canopies that swivel. There is one more wonderful detail the manufacturer did not forget. In the second and third images below you will see a string with a loop near the top of the backrest. When you pull on the tab, your chair will go down so if you are tired of reading and want to lie down, you don’t even have to get up to flatten out your chair! Oh La Dolce Vita!
